TOM has been typically described as having over 6000 users and over 1000 ideas generated by the users. General activity stats for ideas that have passed the process at the moment of study sample was taken (2007-03-01) are presented in following table. In addition 20 ideas were in various phases of completion and were not counted in analysis: 2 in commenting, 5 in voting and 13 in waiting-for-answer.

As there are some ideas with conflicting votecounts and statuses (see Weird facts) following percentages use most reasonable base: in/out relation is of actual votes and not counting the effect of following signing procedure or voted-out ideas being answered, while answered ratio is based on ideas that have been actually sent for answering.

While number of abandoned ideas is small (4,1% total) this seems to be mostly thanks to regular users or visitors who have stumbled upon an idea at the right moment. Author's participation in voting or commenting the idea is really low, a sure sign that the initial system was not designed with promoting discussion in mind (no easy notification about changes, multi-step process with commenting-voting-signing). Surprisingly author's participation has not had much influence on voting result.

As there is no incentive to sign up except for commenting or voting it is interesting to see that only 45% of users have performed any action after signup.
